Old ways are the BEST ways

I was browsing the chicken forum the other day (yes, I said Chicken and Forum in the same sentence) and came across a post by a lady who found this great article.  The gist of it was about a man’s father, who was an engineer, and loved his garden and his chickens.  He liked to do things with minimal effort, max reward.  Don’t we all.  Well, he put a plan in place for his garden and his chickens that I absolutely LOVE!  Better yet, I actually have the space already fenced in out back and wouldn’t have to set posts or anything!  Just wrap with 1/2″ hardware cloth and add an aviary net on whichever side the chickens are on…voila!  Okay, so here is the plan I drew up (utilizing the idea of this GENIUS!):

Humm, maybe that isn’t so clear.  Well, the idea is very simple.  Coop in the middle, garden on one side, chicken yard on the other, compost (coop clean out) behind the coop/shed.  Every year, you rotate where your chickens are and where the garden is.  Chickens scratch the earth, eat the bugs, eat the weeds…and leave lovely manure.  Best part?  I only have to garden ONE side each year.  I REALLY hope this works.
